Quality Services deployed for one of Switzerland’s largest insurance companies operating in the non-life sector

The Client

Our client is the first private insurance company set up in Switzerland in 1826. It is one of Switzerland’s largest insurance companies operating in the non-life sector, also known as property insurance. In property insurance, they are the market leaders for decades now.

Project Background

The client has a large information management system mostly maintained using IMS DB/DC on OS/390 on mainframes. The system has interfaces to other systems, internal as well as external. The main objectives of the system are to provide or to become:

  • Leading all-lines insurer in Switzerland
  • Comprehensive security and pension services for customers
  • Sustained business performance
At the heart of the transaction processing in the client system is the central partner system – Kunden Daten (KUDA). KUDA handles all transaction partners, their addresses and bank connections as well as all contract data and relationships to direct transaction contracts of the client. A contract is placed (reserved) first in KUDA, which determines the unambiguous transaction number. The corresponding entry takes place via other applications. The contract can be entered in the portfolio systems only after opening in KUDA system. As in any business environment, services and processes of KUDA were enhanced to accommodate the business requirements. In this span, due to the non-availability of ‘structured documentation base’, the enhancements made were not reflected in the existing KUDA documentation. Consequently, the application knowledge is confined to the key members of the KUDA team.

The following sums up the existing situation:
  • Existing documentation is not up to date and hence not very helpful
  • Available documentation is confined to certain areas and is not adequate
  • Currently application knowledge base is more person centric, less process driven
  • Application and Interface related knowledge is limited
  • Existing documentation do not follow the client-specific standard for documentation namely IEU /MVM Plus

TCGIvega was given the responsibility of developing the documentation for all the components of KUDA in MVM Plus standards. The components are mainly categorized as:
  • Online Programs
  • Modules
  • Batch Programs

Scope of the project

Within the Application KUDA, the following technical documentation will be considered:

  • Programs – Online
  • Programs – Batch
  • Modules

TCGIvega's Role

TCGIvega was involved in:

  • Understand the client requirements for developing Technical documentation
  • Develop Technical documentation for all KUDA components adhering to MVMPlus standards
  • Ensure client reviews and acceptances on the German version of the document

Client Benefits

  • Quality documentation of all the systems worked upon by TCGIvega
  • Ensured better understandability of the existing systems
  • Good orientation base for new comers
  • Widen the horizontal knowledge on periodic and key processes in KUDA
  • Ease the process of interfacing with KUDA for other applications
  • Adhere to the IEU / MVMPlus guidelines
